HISTORY OF NEW TESTAMENT MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
The New Testament Missionary Baptist Church was organized on March 3, 1963 in Thonotasassa, Florida, under the name Marshall Missionary Baptist Church The first service was held in the home of Dea. Walker and Sis. Maggie Hall. Nine persons were present for the March 1963 service:

Sis. Josephine Campbell Sis. Evelyn Lofton Rev. A. D. Tyson
Sis. Maggie Hall Rev. Elijah Morris Sis. Corine Tyson
The message was delivered by Rev. Morris and four members were added to the new church. In a meeting following the service, Rev. A. C. Campbell was elected pastor and served in that capacity until his death in October, 1963. Groundbreaking for a new building had previously been held on January 27, 1963. Meanwhile, services continued in a nearby vacant building on Fowler Avenue owned by Sis. Emogene Washington. Because the church was without a pastor, in December, 1963, Rev. I. Anderson, moderator of Mt. Pilgrim Association, held election of officers. Those elected were:

Chairman, Deaconess Board Sis. Josephine Campbell
Secretary Sis. Maggie Hall
Trustee Board Bro. Isaiah Lowe
Bro. Eddie Marshall
Dea. James Toombs
Others elected to offices were: Bro. Jimmie Davis, Dea. Burney Ford and Dea. Clarence Fletcher.
On Easter Sunday, March 29, 1964, under the elected pastor, Rev. E. H. Everett, the Marshall M. B. Church held services in its newly erected building on Marshall Road. Other pastors that followed were: Rev. E. Jones and Rev. E. Cobbs.
Pastor Ben Johnson, Jr. and First Lady Helen C. Johnson answered the leadership call of Marshall M. B. Church in November, 1970. Pastor Johnson was elected and installation services held February 15-21, 1971. There was six participating churches and pastors. The elected officers were Deacon Joe Fedrick, Deacon Walker Hall, Deacon Will Farris, Deacon Frank Gray, Deacon Junior Chaney, Deacon Alexander Buchanan, Deacon Ray Goins, Deacon Sam Cleggett and Deacon James Toombs; Church Secretary Sis. Maggie, Financial Secretary Sis. Lovie Overall and Chairman of Deaconess Board Mary Gray.
The church was a small group under the leadership of Pastor Johnson and Sis. Johnson, the church begin go grow; because of the declining condition of the church building the need for a new building was realize. Then after much consideration Marshall . B. Church was rename New Testament Missionary Baptist Church and the name change was recored Hillsborough County March 9, 1979.
On February 17, 1980, groundbreaking service for the new sancturayon Walker Road was held and construction began. The completed sancturay was dedicated on January20, 1985 and the cornerstone was laid April 14, 1985
Over the years, Pastors Johnson and First Lady Johnson proved that they were people willing to work for God. They initiated and motivated the congregation’s involvement in association, church civic, and community activities throughout the city. The church ministries were strengthened and continue to carry out the Great Commission.
As we continue to grow in number we saw a need to purchase a van. Through donations and fund raising the church was able to purchase a fifteen (15) passenger van in 1995.
On Sunday, February 5, 1995 First Lady Helen C. Johnson was called to service in heaven and the congreggation as well as the city mourned this great loss. Her legacy continues in many ministry of the church n the Helen C. Johnson scholarship.
The church burned the mortgage in the Spring of 1997, it was completely debt free.
Pastor Johnson continues to deliver God’s message and work toward the kingdom-building goal. As a devoted, caring, and compassionate leader, Pastor Johnson calls for congregation, and Christians everywhere, to press toward the mark of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus; until he answered his final call. Pastor Ben Johnson, Jr., served as our pastor for thirty (35) years until his demise on July 30, 2005.
Pasto Johnson passing, Rev. John D. Anderson, Jr., served s acting pastor. On November 2, 2006, Rev. John D. Anderson, Jr., was called as pastor. He served until March 2012. On November 15,2012 Pastor Alfonso Gallon was elected, and currently serving as pastor.
